Claimer eyes fourth straight win

CALGARY, Alberta - Tontoboychuk, an astute $11,000 claim at Stampede last fall, will seek his fourth victory of the meet, matched against five rivals here in Friday's featured seventh race.

Trainer Dale Greenwood claimed Tontoboychuk, 5, on behalf of Jeannine and Maurice Normand, and already has realized a tidy profit while moving the gelding up the claiming ladder.

Greenwood leads the trainer's standings entering the final two weekends of this 43-day stand, and his best chance at victory on Friday comes with Tontoboychuk.

Tontoboychuk's three victories and the four consecutive wins by Tantoo, claimed out of her latest race on Sunday, have helped Greenwood maintain the lead throughout the spring meet.

Also on Friday's program is the return of rider Rickey Walcott, who finished serving out a six-day suspension, an absence that has helped allow Quincy Welch to regain the lead in the rider standings.

Walcott has been aboard Tontoboychuk for each of his victories and has the call again Friday in the one-mile race for $25,000 claimers.

Walcott had Tontoboychuk show speed in his May 20 win over $20,000 company, and will likely use a similar strategy here.

Tontoboychuk drew post 4, and must deal with Related Trump, who looms as the speed of the compact field.

Related Trump drew outside, giving rider Perry Winters little choice but to send early because of the short run to the first turn.

In his last race, Related Trump made the lead versus similar foes and held on to finish second, beaten only three-quarters of a length.
