Cityscape to stand in England at Overbury Stud

Group 1 winner Cityscape, who won or placed in graded/group stakes in seven different countries, has been retired from racing and will stand at Overbury Stud in Gloucestershire, England for an advertised fee of $8,109 (5,000 British Pounds), Racing Post reports

The 7-year-old Selkirk horse was a leading miler in Europe, and earned his biggest career victory in the Group 1 Dubai Duty Free at Meydan in 2012. Also among his six wins from 23 starts were the Nayef Joel Stakes in England, the Prix Perth in France and the Solonaway Stakes in Ireland, all Group 3 races.

Cityscape competed at the highest levels across the globe, winning or placing in additional graded/group stakes races in Canada, England, France, Hong Kong, Ireland, and the United Arab Emirates. He finished his career with earnings of $4,653,891.

"We're very lucky to have a horse of his caliber standing at Overbury Stud," said Simon Sweeting, a member of the group that purchased Cityscape for stud duty. "He is the best son of Selkirk to retire to stud and he will be a great outcross for breeders to use in the coming years.”

Homebred in Great Britain by Khalid Abdullah’s Juddmonte Farms and trained during his racing career by Roger Charlton, Cityscape is out of the Group 3-placed stakes-winning Distant View mare Tantina, whose four winners from as many foals to race also include Group 2 winner Bated Breath and stakes-placed winner Scuffle.

"He was an exceptional performer and is a lovely-looking horse - it is just very exciting to be standing a horse like him,” Sweeting said. “He also has a strong pedigree, being a half-brother to Bated Breath and coming from the family of Redoute's Choice. Everything is there on the page."
