City Slicker favored in Club House Special

City Slicker is the lone winner in a field of five 2-year-olds set to contest the $10,000 Club House Special going six furlongs at Columbus.

City Slicker won his maiden at first asking at Lincoln this summer and should be favored for trainer Kelly Clark. City Slicker, a Kansas-bred, bypassed the Capital City Futurity at Lincoln. Jerry Carkeek rides.

Craftmaster should pose the main threat to the top choice despite a poor showing against maiden company at Prairie Meadows in his last start. Craftmaster started his career July 8 at Lincoln with a runner-up finish and came back the following week to finish second in the Capital City Futurity. He returned against maiden company at Iowa on Aug. 7, was hung wide through the turn, and finished far back.

Claim the Throne and Scooter Blue will make their career debuts, while Minnesquito makes her second start. Claim the Throne is out of the stakes-producing mare Stormin Turkey. Scooter Blue is out of the 5-year-old mare Hayley Go Blue, who is still competing and won at Prairie Meadows earlier this month.
