Ciano Cat colt brings top price

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - A $37,000 colt by Ciano Cat topped the open sessions of the Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society's sale of Canadian-bred yearlings, held Friday and Saturday at the Woodbine Sales Pavilion.

A total of 128 yearlings sold for a total of $937,200 in the open sessions, for an average price of $7,322. Eighty-eight were listed as not sold. There was no comparable session in 2003.

Denny Andrews purchased the open sale-topper from Gardiner Farm, as agent for Wendy Parker. The colt is a half-brother to Grade 3 Canadian Derby winner Native Brass.

The highest-priced filly was a $30,000 daughter of Archers Bay. A half-sister to stakes winners Rushiscomingup and Rare Executive, she was bought by trainer Mike DePaulo from Windfields Farm, agent.

Next in line was a daughter of Sahm, who brought $28,000 from Beclawat Stable. Spring Farm consigned the filly, who is out of Grade 2 winner Sweet Roberta, the dam of stakes winner Jah.

Owner-trainer Sue Leslie paid $27,000 for a Bold Executive filly out of the Runaway Groom mare Whose to Know. Gardiner Farm was the consignor.

Rounding out the top five was My Proposal, a daughter of Bold Executive out of stakes winner Hoofprintonmyhart. Club Amarillo, as agent for Steven Philpott, sold the filly for $23,500 to owner-trainer Ross Armata.
