LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Satish Sanan and Steve Asmussen once held high hopes for an ultra-fast horse named Majesticperfection before the gelding had his career ended by injury. The owner-trainer team now has another potential top sprinter in Rothko, who ran six others off their feet in a 2 1/2-length triumph Saturday night in the 24th running of the Grade 3, $109,400 Aristides Stakes at Churchill Downs.
Rothko, with Corey Nakatani aboard, swept past the early leaders en route to his fourth victory from eight career starts in the six-furlong Aristides. The 4-year-old Rothko returned $4.20 after finishing in 1:09.40 over a fast track. Will’s Wildcat was second, another 2 1/4 lengths before Whiskey Rebellion in third.
“I’m really happy for this horse,” said Asmussen, who was on hand with one of his three sons. “I’m glad to see him get this win. We’ve talked about maybe following up with the Iowa Sprint and the Vanderbilt like we did with Majesticperfection, so we’ll see.”
Airdrie Stud would be awfully disappointed if Majesticperfection was a gelding.

HE AIN'T BLUFFING has been idle seven weeks, but has already posted three layover Beyers either as a first-time starter or when fresh, and new trainer Michelle Nevin has done well here lately with Gulfstream shippers off short breaks, including Teaks North in a stake earlier this week; went well on this track in only try. BUGSY LOSTY has been freshened since disappointing effort on Aqueduct's inner track first time in from SoCal circuit; money chances off two prior dirt races. SATURDAY APPEAL ran a big race at 15-1 when blinkers came on last Nov. 29, and then won with them off Feb.
