LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Dale Romans currently trains one of the most potent collections of stakes runners in North America. As he begins making preparations to take a large string to Saratoga for the meet that starts July 20, here are some plans:
Tapitsfly, winner of the Grade 1 Just A Game on the Belmont Stakes undercard, “might run in the Firecracker against the boys” on July 1, said Romans. “Or we might just wait for the Diana” on July 28 at Saratoga.
Shackleford could go next in the Aug. 4 Whitney at Saratoga, although “we might slip into Monmouth” for the July 7 Monmouth Cup.
Dullahan and Silver Max both are serious candidates for the July 21 Virginia Derby at Colonial Downs.
Little Mike is in southern California to run in the June 30 Shoemaker Mile at Betfair Hollywood Park.
Romans Avenue, perhaps his top 2-year-old colt, runs here in the Bashford Manor Stakes on the June 30 Downs After Dark card.
Afleeting Lady, second to Royal Delta in the Fleur de Lis on Saturday night, goes next in the July 21 Delaware Handicap or the July 29 Molly Pitcher at Monmouth.
I really hope Dullahan runs in the Virginia Derby. He will be favorite and a total sucker bet too on turf. Easily handled by Howe Great and Optimizer on turf, could not even beat Tiz Sardonic Joe who weakened just weakened today on the Matt Winn Turf course that has been holding speed all meet. Dullahan will be able to add a 3rd win during the Keeneland Fall Meet. Romans really should try him on the Tapeta at Woodbine to see whether he's a Dubai World Cup horse.

If your reading this, be careful about bringing Shackelford to Monmouth Park. The composition of the dirt track is different than what Shack ran on last year in the Haskell.
Also, it is an entirely new track maintenance crew this year. New operator = low budget.
Saratoga will offer a better surface to run on.

I couldnt BELIEVE the backing Dullahan was getting at Belmont!!!
NO WINS ON DIRT!!!
Ill be honest and tell you I had a nice sized win/place bet on Atigun who finished 3rd.

I believe Mr. Roman's claimed "I wouldn't change positions with any other horse," just prior to the Belmont and then finished behind (30-1)Five Sixteen and (20-1)Unstoppable U. Excuse me if I don't place a wager on this horse in any dirt race.soon.

What a awesome stable, good for you Mr. Romans!
Bought a beautiful picture of Shackleford at the Preakness this year.

LOVE TO RUN was rarin' to go first out in two months, so much so that he rocketed through a six-furlong split of 1:08.79 seconds - faster than Cross Traffic in the Westchester at the same one-mile distance a few days earlier; back-to-back Belmont wins last year included one rallying from next-to-last, so he may make good use of outside draw to track COLIZEO. The latter drops to same second-level condition where he won big first off R-Rod claim; reunited with Jose Ortiz, who was aboard for that score on wet track.
