Churchill Downs: Kentucky Derby and Oaks cards offer wager for every bettor
By Marty McGee
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The usual abundance of wagering options will be available on the 12-race Friday and 13-race Saturday cards at Churchill, including:
◗ Two-day wagers linking the Oaks and Derby in a daily double ($1 minimum), and the Oaks, Woodford, and Derby in a pick three (50-cent minimum).
◗ Pool guarantees in the $2 pick six of $250,000 for Friday (races 6-11) and $1 million for Saturday (races 6-11). The bet carries over if no perfect tickets are sold (next live racing day is May 9).
◗ One pick five wager (50-cent minimum) each day, ending with Oaks and Derby.
◗ Three pick fours (50-cent minimum) on Oaks Day (races 2-5, 4-7, and 8-11), and four on Derby Day (races 2-5, 4-7, 8-11, and 10-13).
◗ Super high five ($1 minimum) on the Oaks and Derby (carries over if no perfect tickets).
Bettors are cautioned that the popular 10-cent superfecta is not available because of logistical constraints; the superfecta minimum is $1 both Friday and Saturday. Many wagers maintain a 50-cent minimum, including trifectas and rolling pick threes.
My wife would have won the Kentucky Oaks Super if they had been 10 cent supers. (She would have boxed as she usually does...) Everyone that critized the "logic" of the refusal to do it is EXACTLY right.. There IS no reason!!!! Shame on the industry to "milk" the small man thoughout the year, then STICK it to them at times like this...
Churchill is again showing hate towards people who aren't millionaires. Other tracks have ten cent superfectas on big days. They take less time at the windows to bet than any other bet, so don't listen to the liars who say the bets take too long. I know. I'm a mutuels clerk. It's the rich guy who keeps making "non minimum" bets of different amounts who holds up the lines. Ten cent supers are the best idea ever in horse racing. Finally, a low income true handicapper has an outside chance of getting the entire pool on a ten cent bet. Love to see ten cent bettors cash in over the arrogant dollar super bettors.
Wish other tracks adopted nyra style grand slam wagers
next, maybe a roling p-4
$1 supers. Gotta bring 3x the bankroll now. Glad I read that. thanks!

Last year we couldn't bet a .50tri at GG. Hopefully that was been fixed.
