Churchill Downs: Five Kentucky-based Breeders' Cup winners to be paraded

Email

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Five Kentucky-based winners at the Breeders’ Cup last weekend at Santa Anita will be paraded before the home crowd Sunday at Churchill Downs.

Wise Dan, Fort Larned, Groupie Doll, Little Mike, and Tapizar will be led over from the barn area after the seventh race. They will come to the paddock with the horses for the eighth race, which is scheduled for 4:06 p.m. Eastern, and remain there during the subsequent post parade and running of the race. The connections of all five horses also will be recognized during the brief ceremony.

All of the BC winners are stabled at Churchill except for Wise Dan, who is based at Keeneland.

The connections of one other Churchill-based winner, Hightail, declined an invitation to participate, saying the 2-year-old colt might be too high-strung. One more BC winner, Royal Delta, has high-profile Churchill connections, but she currently is with the Bill Mott string in New York.

I can't believe the connections of those high class horses agree to bring them to just a parade for the public like Clyde horses or circus type. The will get all stir up thinking they are going to run and they can even get colitis for that.

That's a wonderful line up of horses and a must see for a horse fan if they are anywhere near Churchill Downs that day. It's too bad Hightail can't be there. And Royal Delta - she's quite something to see in person. This is a nice event for Churchill to hold for the horses, the connections, and especially the fans.

That is a great thing to do for horse racing! They should be acknowledged, that is a great feat! Very cool!
