Chuck Zacney, whose Cash Is King Stables is a major force in the Mid-Atlantic region, has been a major buyer at Fasig-Tipton’s regional sales. He found 2016 Kentucky Oaks winner Cathryn Sophia at the company’s fall yearling sale. Last year, his trio of purchases out of the annual juvenile sale included Diamond King, who took him to the Preakness Stakes almost a year to the day later. Two days after this year’s Preakness, Zacney stepped up his game, purchasing eight juveniles for a total of $1,475,000 out of the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-year-olds in training sale. That group was led by an Into Mischief colt for $340,000 and a Bernardini filly for $325,000. The Into Mischief colt, who was consigned by pinhooker Cary Frommer, was a $245,000 buyback at the Fasig-Tipton Gulfstream sale in late March. Frommer, who emphasized that the colt is still maturing, said she told Zacney and other buyers that the colt was “75 percent” at the time of the Midlantic sale. “He’s a little immature, he’s a big baby, he plays a lot, he plays hard,” Frommer said. “Time has done him a world of good. He came into this a smarter, better horse . . . He did his job here off of raw ability and he’s got a lot of it.” Zacney ended up with a trio of horses by leading juvenile sire Into Mischief at the Midlantic sale, also including a $155,000 filly and a $100,000 filly. :: Get breeding & sales news, Beyer info, and more delivered right to your email!
