Christmas Time wins Woodside Handicap

SAN MATEO, Calif. - Christmas Time ($9.20) scored her second straight stakes victory, defeating favored Stormica by 1_ (one one-quarter) lengths to win the $56,738 Woodside Handicap at Bay Meadows on Sunday.

Christmas Time covered six furlongs in 1:09.43 after breaking sharply and stalking Channing Way to the stretch when she took over. Stormica was a nose in front of Coconut Girl who was a nose in front of Channing Way.

"We've always had a lot of confidence in this filly, and I think she proved it today," winning trainer Jerry Hollendorfer said. "I figured they would have a tough time beating her because she ran close to Ema Bovary (when second in the Jan. 24 Orinda Handicap at Golden Gate Fields), and she's nearly unbeatable now. I told Russell (Baze, her jockey) to keep her close and in the clear, and he did just that."

Christmas Times has now won three stakes among her six victories. She earned $30,750 to lift her career earnings to $207,053 in 15 starts.
