Charmed Victory starts over in Friday allowance

The Friday card at Laurel Park includes a pair of second-level optional-claiming races and a first-level allowance sprint. There is a $2,351 Super Hi 5 carryover to race 1, if the seven-horse field holds together. If there are scratches and the Super Hi 5 is canceled, the carryover will be to race 2.

The race 8 optional-claiming feature marks the return of the once-promising Charmed Victory. A $260,000 yearling purchase, the son of Flatter started his career in December 2015 by rallying from far back to win a Laurel maiden race by a length. He followed his debut up with a six-length optional-claiming victory.

Following a second-place finish in the Miracle Wood Stakes, Charmed Victory’s form slid downhill. He finished fifth in the Private Term Stakes and then seventh in an optional-claiming race. Friday’s one-mile race will be his first start since he finished eighth in the Sir Barton Stakes at Pimlico on the Preakness undercard.

Charmed Victory has been moved to the stable of Graham Motion and is now a gelding. He has been given nine works at the Fair Hill Training Center since Nov. 5.

Trevor McCarthy has been named to ride Charmed Victory for the first time Friday.
