Charlottetown: Ys Lotus takes Gold Cup & Saucer in record time

Ys Lotus set a new track record of 1:50 1/5 in winning the $60,000 Sobey's Gold Cup & Saucer for aged pacers on Saturday night at the Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at Charlottetown Driving Park in Prince Edward Island, Canada.

Go Daddy Go (Brad Forward) took the field of five through opening-half fractions of 26 2/5 and 54 1/5, but fellow Rene Allard trainee Ys Lotus (Philippe-Louis Roy) was first-over at the half, and he would forge his way into the lead at the 1:22 2/5 three-quarters.  From there, Ys Lotus opened up at will, eventually winning by six lengths over Go Daddy Go.  Alexas Jackpot (Jody Jamieson) finished third, ahead of Ron Burke trainees Limelight Beach (Anthony MacDonald) and Foiled Again (Marc Campbell).

Yves Sarrazin owns Ys Lotus, a 5-year-old gelding by If I Can Dream.  This was his 17th career victory, and he pushed his earnings to C$206,919.  Ys Lotus paid $6.70 to win.
