Down Town Allen, with Matt McGowan aboard, wins the Fancy Buckles Stakes for the second straight year.

Down Town Allen remains the queen of Charles Town after running down the 3-year-old filly Jax and Jill in deep stretch of Saturday night’s $51,050 Fancy Buckles Stakes for West Virginia-bred fillies and mares.

The 6-year-old Down Town Allen ($4.20) extended her winning streak over two seasons to six races by stalking and pouncing on the speedy Jax and Jill, who opened up a two-length lead in the 4 1/2-furlong race by running the first quarter-mile in 21.97 seconds.

Jax and Jill, a two-time stakes winner last season who came into the Fancy Buckles with a 3-for-3 record at Charles Town, still led by 1 1/2 lengths at the stretch call before Down Town Allen finished fast under Matt McGowan and won by a half-length.

In winning the Fancy Buckles for the second straight year, Down Town Allen completed the distance on a fast track in 51.27 seconds. Her winning streak also includes the $225,000 Cavada, the richest race for fillies and mares on the West Virginia Breeders’ Classic program. Overall, Down Town Allen, owned and trained by John A. Casey, has won 17 of 32 starts and $740,177.
