Down Town Allen brings a five-race winning streak into Saturday night's Fancy Buckles Stakes, a race she won last year.

The 6-year-old mare Down Town Allen, who dominated the richest race for West Virginia-bred older fillies and mares that Charles Town offers last fall, and the youngster Jax and Jill, the best 2-year-old statebred filly on the grounds last season, will meet for the first time in Saturday night’s $50,000 Fancy Buckles Stakes.

The 4 1/2-furlong race, restricted to West Virginia-bred fillies and mares, drew a field of seven.

Down Town Allen, a winner of 16 of 31 lifetime, has put together a five-race winning streak that began with last year’s Fancy Buckles. She also has won three times going seven furlongs and the 1 1/8-mile, $225,000 Cavada during her current streak.

In her lone start this season, Down Town Allen easily capured last month’s seven-furlong Original Gold by 3 1/2 lengths. She is 7 for 15 in ultra-short sprints at Charles Town.

Jax and Jill has won 5 of 6 lifetime, including two stakes for statebreds last season. In her 3-year-old debut May 1, Jax and Jill defeated open-company allowance runners by 1 1/2 lengths. As the lone 3-year-old in Saturday’s field, she will get a five-pound weight concession from each of her opponents, all of whom are assigned 122 pounds.

The filly with the best chance to spring a surprise is the 4-year-old Fear the Facelift. She prefers to come from off the pace, like she did in winning the Presidents Day Handicap in February by a neck. Fear the Facelift owns a 7-for-11 record in short sprints.

Autumn Affair was the runner-up to Down Town Allen at 48-1 in the Original Gold but regressed when asked to face open-allowance horses May 16. Last fall, she was beaten only a neck by Fear the Facelift while going 4 1/2 furlongs.
