Charles Town: Davis-trained horses collect four slots in starter finals

Trainer Scooter Davis locked up four of the 10 available slots for the finals of the Charles Town Starter Tournament by going 4 for 4 with his runners in Saturday night’s semifinals.

Disco Indy ($7.80) snapped a three-race losing streak in the second of two seven-furlong heats worth $30,000 apiece, one race after Davis-trained runners finished one-two-three. The favored Pure Rey ($4.20) won his second straight race since the 7-year-old was claimed for $5,000. His stablemates, Run Fat Boy Run and Etched Stone, checked in second and third.

Working Man Blues and Cape Sable claimed the last two slots in the first heat by finishing fourth and fifth. In a surprise, quarterfinal winner Cape Finisterre finished eighth and failed to advance to the $55, 000 final at 1 1/16 miles on the Charles Town Classic undercard on April 14.

In the first semifinal, Azicharmyou rallied to get second and Go Maire Tu closed ground late to finish third. Albrecht, the top-seeded horse in the tournament, advanced by finishing fourth. C V’s Develen, second in his quarterfinal heat, was the fifth and final qualifier from the second heat.
