Charles Town: Amherst Street wins Tri-State Futurity to stay perfect

Amherst Street delivered as the 1-5 favorite in the $118,825 Tri-State Futurity at Charles Town on Saturday night, scoring by a length over second choice Comeonletsplay to improve his career record to 4 for 4.

One race earlier, Red Hot Diva took the $51,100 My Sister Pearl Stakes by a neck over Autumn Affair for her fourth straight victory.

Amherst Street ($2.40) led throughout the seven-furlong Tri-State Futurity for 2-year-olds, building a 1 1/2-length lead under jockey Antonio Lopez after a quarter-mile in 23.25 seconds and a half-mile in 47 seconds. The gelding had a 1 1/2-length advantage at the head of the lane and went on to stop the clock in 1:26.84 on a fast track.

Amherst Street entered the race off a pair of scores in stakes for West Virginia-breds. The son of Luftikus has earned $152,896 for owner Phyllis M. Susini LLC and trainer Javier Contreras.

In the My Sister Pearl for West Virginia-bred fillies and mares, Red Hot Diva overtook even-money favorite and pacesetter Fear the Facelift in midstretch and held off Autumn Affair, who rallied for second, 1 1/2 lengths clear of Fear the Facelift in third.

Red Hot Diva ($8.20) was timed in 1:54.50 for 1 1/8 miles on a fast track. The 3-year-old daughter of Devon Deputy was ridden by Mathew Carroll McGowan for owner Naomi R. Long and trainer Ollie Figgins III. She has won three consecutive stakes for statebreds to improve her career record to 6 for 11 and boost her earnings to $137,890.
