Chantilly: Goldikova's sister heads French Oaks

The reputation of Goldikova was cemented years ago, but her younger half-sister, Galikova, will be out to make a name for herself in the Group 1 Prix de Diane (French Oaks) on Sunday at Chantilly.

Nine horses were left in the Prix de Diane when the final entry stage closed Friday morning, among them Galikova’s pace-maker, a Freddie Head-trained filly named Polemique, who set up the Group 3 Prix Cleopatre for a Galikova victory in the two fillies’ most recent outing.

Also entered in the Prix de Diane is Galikova’s most obvious challenger, Golden Lilac, winner of the French 1000 Guineas in her most recent start. Golden Lilac should handle the added distance of the French Oaks, but did benefit from a soft trip winning the Guineas.

◗ The Group 1 Gran Premio di Milano headlines a multi-stakes card at San Siro in Italy on Sunday. Italian native Frankie Dettori is expected to ride the three stakes on the card, and may have a live mount in the Gran Premio di Milano in the German horse Scalo. Scalo, trained by Andreas Wohler, won the Group 1 Preis von Europa late last summer in Germany.
