Chance Arrest can give Dodds fifth Debutante

WINNIPEG, Manitoba - Trainer Tom Dodds will look to win the Debutante Stakes for the fifth time Sunday at Assiniboia Downs with Chance Arrest. The 5 1/2-furlong race, which drew a field of nine 2-year-old fillies, carries a purse of $27,500.

Chance Arrest overcame trouble to win her first career start here July 6. Jerry Pruitt will ride Chance Arrest, who breaks from post 8.

Miss Gold Dee led to the sixteenth pole in her first career start, when she faced males here in the July 8 Graduation. Trained by Emile Corbel, Miss Gold Dee may find running against her own sex an easier assignment as she breaks from post 2 under Danny Vergara.

Swing in Satin made the lead in two maiden special weight starts at Stampede Park in May, winning on the second occasion, and probably will challenge Miss Gold Dee for the early lead. Alan Cuthbertson will ride Swing in Satin.

Tattel Tale has failed to come close in two maiden special starts at Canterbury Park but did show brief speed in her most recent outing July 1. She may be part of the early pace under Gary Melanson.

Trainer Ardell Sayler will send out the entry of Cat Creek Christy and Sands Fury. Sands Fury, who won here at first asking, will be ridden by Brian Harding. Cat Creek Christy, who ran third behind Chance Arrest in her only start, will have Ruben Solis aboard.

Magical Chimes finished fourth behind Sands Fury as the odds-on choice in her only start. Trained by Darla Singh, Magical Chimes will add blinkers for the Debutante and will be ridden by Rohan Singh.

Rounding out the field will be first-time starter Torquilla and Feistyforestdancer, who is winless in two starts.
