Champion Havre de Grace delivers War Front colt

Horse of the Year Havre de Grace delivered her second foal, a colt by popular young commercial sire War Front, early Feb. 14 at Timber Town Farm near Lexington, Ky.

The 8-year-old Saint Liam mare, whose first foal is a yearling Tapit filly, is boarded at Wayne and Cathy Sweezey’s facility for owner Mandy Pope’s Whisper Hill Farm.

Havre de Grace earned Horse of the Year honors in 2011, when she became just the second female to win the Grade 1 Woodward Stakes. In all, she won seven stakes, with additional Grade 1 triumphs in the Apple Blossom Handicap and Beldame Stakes. She retired with nine wins from 16 starts for earnings of $2,586,175. Following the close of her career, she was purchased by Pope for $10 million out of the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky fall selected mixed sale.

Havre de Grace, from the only crop of Saint Liam, is out of a half-sister to four graded stakes producers, including the dams of Belmont Stakes winner Tonalist and Grade 1 winner Riskaverse. It is the family of champion Plugged Nickle and Grade 1 winners Christiecat and Sauce Boat.
