Champion Dank in foal to Galileo

Dank, the Eclipse Award winner for champion turf female in 2013, has been reported in foal to global sire Galileo for her first pregnancy.

The 6-year-old Dansili mare is owned by James Wigan, who campaigned her during her on-track career, and resides at West Blagdon Stud near Salisbury, England. Her expected due date is Feb. 28.

The British-bred Dank won seven of 15 starts over four seasons of racing for earnings of $2,428,979. She raced the majority of her career in England, winning the Group 3 Bahlia Stakes and Atalanta Stakes. She also won the Group 2 Kilboy Estate Stakes in Ireland, but arguably her greatest exploits came in the U.S., where she arrived in 2013 and won the Grade 1 Beverly D. Stakes and Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf to earn Eclipse honors. Her final start came in a fourth-place effort in the following year’s Filly and Mare Turf.

Dank is out of the winning Darshaan mare Masskana, whose six winners from nine foals to race include Group 1 winners Sulk and Eagle Mountain, and Group 3-placed stakes winner Wallace.

Galileo, a 17-year-old son of Sadler’s Wells, stands at Coolmore Stud in Ireland for a private fee. One of the world’s most coveted sires, Galileo’s top runners include undefeated European champion Frankel, as well as fellow European champions New Approach, Teofilo, and Lily of the Valley, U.S. champion Cape Blanco, South African Horse of the Year Igugu, South African champion Mahbooba, and Grade/Group 1 winners Australia, Soldier of Fortune, Magician, Treasure Beach, Lush Lashes, Nathaniel, Intello, Rip Van Winkle, Ruler of the World, and Gleneagles.
