Cee's Tizzy, sire of Tiznow, dead at 28

Prominent California stallion Cee’s Tizzy, best known for siring Horse of the Year Tiznow, has been euthanized due to the infirmities of old age, Harris Farm reported on Tuesday. The son of Relaunch was 28.

Grade 2-placed during his own racing career, Cee’s Tizzy quickly made a mark by siring Grade 2 winner Budroyale, a $2-million earner and runner-up in the 1999 Breeders’ Cup Classic, from his first crop. Tiznow followed, winning the 2000 and 2001 editions of the Classic to become the only horse ever to win two editions of North America’s richest race. He is now among Kentucky’s perennial leading sires.

Cee’z Tizzy is also the sire of champion Gourmet Girl and Grade 1 winner Cost of Freedom, and is the broodmare sire of runners such as Preakness Stakes winner Oxbow and Grade 1 winner Paynter. In all, Cee's Tizzy is the sire of 385 winners to date, including 39 stakes winners, for earnings of $37,613,148.
