Cee's a Flirt takes on familiar foes

Email

EDMONTON, Alberta - Papoose Dancer and Kellys Guest seek to turn the tables on Cee's a Flirt in Sunday's Northlands Park feature, a $30,000 claimer for fillies and mares at 6 1/2 furlongs.

After a one-month layoff, Cee's a Flirt returned Sept. 2 to post a victory over Papoose Dancer and Kellys Guest at the same distance and claiming price as Sunday's race. The win marked the first for the 5-year-old Cee's a Flirt since she was claimed for $22,000 by trainer Carson Frey in mid-July.

For Papoose Dancer, that race marked the first time she had been bested by Cee's a Flirt in three meetings this season. When the two first met April 14 in an optional claimer at Stampede Park, Papoose Dancer finished second by a neck with Cee's a Flirt three lengths farther back in fourth place.

They hooked up again June 30 here, and in that race Papoose Dancer led wire to wire to prevail by a neck.

Meanwhile, Kellys Guest, a stakes winner, spent most of the 2006 season laboring in the allowance ranks with only two third-place finishes in her eight starts from March to the end of July. After returning to the races from a month-long holiday, the 5-year-old Kellys Guest showed that she can be competitive with these claiming types when she rallied to finish third at 9-1.

Jockeys Leanne Painter and Stephan Heiler return to ride Cee's a Flirt and Papoose Dancer, respectively. Perry Winters takes over from Shannon Beauregard aboard Kellys Guest.
