Cee's Elegance rebounds in A Gleam

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Cee's Elegance was as brilliant in Sunday's $250,000 as she was a disappointment in the Grade 3 Desert Stormer Handicap last month.

Making her first start since a seventh in the Desert Stormer, Cee's Elegance was hand-ridden to a convincing win in the Grade 2 A Gleam over Grade 1 winners You and Affluent.

Ridden by Victor Espinoza, Cee's Elegance ($21.40) stalked pacesetter Bear Fan through early fractions of :22.12 and :44.62. She engaged Bear Fan on the turn and took the lead in early stretch.

"We were in a perfect spot," trainer Doug O'Neill said.

Cee's Elegance ran seven furlongs in 1:21.47, finishing 1 1/2 lengths in front of You who was a nose in front of Affluent. Bear Fan was fourth, followed by Wild Tickle.

The A Gleam was the third career stakes win and first in a graded stakes for Cee's Elegance. She won the Cat's Cradle Handicap last fall and the B Thoughtful Stakes in April.

"It was a reenactment of the B Thoughtful, with better fillies behind her," O'Neill said.

Cee's Elegance races for Cees Stable. A 6-year-old, she has won 6 of 31 starts and $735,039.
