Cecil to run three in Senorita Stakes

Ben Cecil's full roster of 3-year-old fillies will be on display in the $100,000 Senorita Stakes on turf next weekend. Cecil has three fillies nominated to the Grade 3 race over a mile - Andina, Bab at the Bowster, and Elusive Galaxy - and all are capable of winning.

"I'll probably run all three," he said. "I've got nowhere else to run. I'll try to split them up from there."

Andina was second to Senorita nominee City to City in the Grade 2 Providencia Stakes over 1 1/8 miles on turf at Santa Anita on April 3. Bab at the Bowster was fifth to City to City in the China Doll Stakes there in February, while Elusive Galaxy was second in an optional claimer on Santa Anita's hillside turf course on April 4.

The one-mile distance of the Senorita may not help Andina, but should work in Elusive Galaxy's favor, Cecil said.

"I think Andina is better at a mile and an eighth or a mile and a quarter," he said. "The other filly I ran her down the hill and she needs further."

The Senorita nominees include Harissa, winner of the Sunland Park Oaks in March; Hasty, who was third in the Oh So Sharp Stakes at Newmarket, England, last October; and I'mneverwrong, who won a maiden race and an optional claimer in consecutive starts and would be making her stakes debut.

Witty had excuse in Vinery Madison

Trainer Richard Mandella said he has no current plans for Witty, who lost for the first time in her five-race career when fourth in the Grade 1 Vinery Madison Stakes at Keeneland on April 8. A 4-year-old filly, Witty emerged from that race with an illness.

"She came up with a bunch of gunk in her lungs," Mandella said. "She won't work for a few more days."

Witty won the Grade 3 Railbird Stakes at Hollywood Park in May 2009 in her stakes debut.
