Cawaja Beach wins Shady Well

Cawaja Beach ($5.80) mowed down all the speed to take the $151,200 Shady Well Stakes under a hand ride from Daniel David at Woodbine.

Cawaja Beach raced outside in mid-pack on the backstretch, as favored Poppin helped to set a fast pace in the 5 1/2-furlong dash for Ontario-bred 2-year-old fillies.

Cawaja Beach commenced a four-wide rally on the turn, and hit the front nearing the eighth pole before drawing off for a 2 1/4-length triumph. Sans Souci finished second, but was placed fourth by disqualification for interference at the three-eighths pole. Van Lear Rose inherited second money, and Koonunga Hill got the show prize.

Cawaja Beach covered the distance in 1:04.26, which was close to Bodust's stakes record of 1:04. Trained by Scott Fairlie, she banked $90,000 for Hard Eight Stable and Ace Racing Stable.
