Cauthen named director of owner development at Keeneland

Keeneland announced Tuesday that Julie Cauthen has been named to the newly created position of director of owner and client development. Cauthen will be tasked with expanding Keeneland’s efforts domestically to draw new owners to the Thoroughbred industry and managing relationships with existing Keeneland clients.

Cauthen departs Jerry Crawford’s Donegal Racing, where she served as chief operating officer and managed the day-to-day operations of the syndicate while acting as client liaison. She will report to vice president of sales Walt Robertson at Keeneland.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for me,” Cauthen said. “I literally grew up at Keeneland, handling horses for my family at the sales and attending the races. Now, to be a part of that storied team is almost too good to be true.”

“Julie is the perfect fit for this position,” Robertson said. “She is a knowledgeable horseperson who is well known and well respected in our industry. She has just the right skill set to help us take our continued commitment to expanding Thoroughbred ownership in the United States to even greater heights.”

Cauthen is a fourth-generation horseperson who grew up in Midway, Ky., close to Nuckols Farm, which belonged to her grandparents and currently stands 2001 Kentucky Derby winner Monarchos. She is married to Kerry Cauthen, managing partner of Four Star Sales, and they have two children, Thomas and Julia.
