Catienus returning to New York

Email

Catienus, New York's leading stallion before he went to stand at his owners' Kentucky farm in 2008 and 2009, will head back to the Empire State again in 2010.

Jeff Ramsey, stallion manager at Ramsey Farm in Kentucky, said Catienus, a 15-year-old Storm Cat horse, will stand at McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds in 2010.

Catienus stood for four years in New York at Highcliff Farm in Delanson before owners Ken and Sarah Ramsey moved him home to their farm outside Nicholasville, Ky. Catienus currently ranks 89th nationally with $2,796,310 in 2009 progeny earnings, but that figure puts him in second, behind Freud, in the current New York stallion standings. He led New York's sire rankings in 2006.

Catienus, a Grade 1-placed stakes winner, is the sire of five stakes winners in 2009, including Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint hopeful Cannonball, runner-up this year in the Group 1 Golden Jubilee Stakes.

Catienus stood for an advertised fee of $10,000 this year. His 2010 fee has not been announced.
