Cathryn Sophia will be bred to Pioneerof the Nile

Kentucky Oaks winner Cathryn Sophia has been booked to Pioneerof the Nile for 2017, SF Bloodstock’s Tom Ryan has confirmed.

SF Bloodstock purchased Cathryn Sophia, who won two other graded stakes and placed in three Grade 1 events in addition to the Oaks, for $1.4 million as a broodmare prospect out of last month’s Fasig-Tipton Kentucky fall selected mixed sale. At the time, Ryan, representing the multinational organization, said Pioneerof the Nile was among the prospects the group had considered for the Street Boss filly’s first mating.

“She’s a beautiful mare, and brilliant,” Ryan said. “We saw her in Florida this winter. You hope that you could ever own a Kentucky Oaks winner, and tonight we do, so we’re very excited about it.”

Pioneerof the Nile, who stands at WinStar Farm, is continuing to establish his foothold as a young classic-type sire. After producing 2014 Preakness Stakes third-place finisher Social Inclusion from his first crop, the sire was represented by 2015 Triple Crown winner American Pharoah in just his second crop. His fourth crop is led by Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner and Kentucky Derby winter-book favorite Classic Empire.
