Kentucky Oaks winner Cathryn Sophia and Grade 1 winner Her Emmynency have been cataloged to the Keeneland November breeding stock sale, both carrying their first foals, which are by Pioneerof the Nile. Both mares will be consigned by Bedouin Bloodstock at the auction, which begins Nov. 7. Cathryn Sophia, winner of the 2016 Kentucky Oaks, is a 4-year-old Street Boss mare who won $1,229,720. In addition to her Oaks score, she won the Grade 2 Forward Gal Stakes and Davona Dale Stakes, as well as the non-graded Princess of Sylmar Stakes and Gin Talking Stakes, with three placings in Grade 1 company. :: DRF BREEDING LIVE: Real-time coverage of breeding and sales The Maryland-bred was the first foal out of the unraced Mineshaft mare Sheave, and hails from the family of Grade 2 winners Belterra and Royal Haven. She sold as a racing or broodmare prospect to SF Bloodstock for $1.4 million at last year’s Fasig-Tipton Kentucky fall select mixed sale. “We dare to dream what this mating can produce,” Tom Ryan of SF Bloodstock said. “Physically, Pioneerof the Nile and Cathryn Sophia are made for each other. Cathryn Sophia possessed genuine brilliance. She carried her speed all the way to win the Oaks with authority.” Her Emmynency, a 5-year-old Successful Appeal mare, won 4 of 11 starts for $560,595, highlighted by victories in the Grade 1 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Stakes and the listed Surfer Girl Stakes, with runner-up efforts in the Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante Stakes and Del Mar Oaks. She is out of the Grade 3-winning Joyeux Danseur mare Chic Dancer, who is the dam of four winners from six runners. The extended family includes Grade 1 winner Best Pal. Her Emmynency was also offered at last year’s Fasig-Tipton November sale, but finished under her reserve with a final bid of $1,425,000. “We loved her determination. She pinned her ears and refused to let Miss Temple City past [in the QE II],” Ryan said. “She is a Grade 1 winner on the turf and Grade 1-placed as a 2-year-old on the dirt. She is a beautiful, versatile mare for an exceptional sire in Pioneerof the Nile.”
