Category Seven repeats in Matron

OPELOUSAS, La. - Category Seven successfully defended her title in the $50,000 Matron Stakes at Evangeline Downs Saturday night, rallying from off the pace under Richard Eramia to narrowly prevail in the one-mile test on the turf for fillies and mares. Clear Sailing finished a stubborn neck back in second and 5 1/4 lengths in front of Warrior Maid in third.

Trained by Kenneth Hargrave, Category Seven ($3.60) won for the fifth time in eight starts this year and for the 12th time in her 38-race career. The 5-year-old Gulf Storm mare covered the mile in 1:35.17 over a course rates as firm. She has now earned over $341,000 for John Peron Racing.
