Catalog for Louisiana yearling sale available

Equine Sales Company of Louisiana, which launched operations last fall, has catalogued 180 horses for a yearling and mixed sale to be held Oct. 28 at its auction house in Opelousas, La. The sale will begin at 12 p.m. Central.

The yearlings will sell first, with 57 catalogued and a handful of supplements to be added to the book, according to a release issued Wednesday. The yearling offerings include horses from the first crops of such graded stakes winners as Tizdejavu, Grasshopper, Smooth Air and Marchfield.

For the mixed portion of the auction, there are 69 broodmares cataloged, as well as 31 weanlings and 23 horses of racing age. The complete book can be accessed at www.equinesalesofla.com.

The October sale comes on the heels of the company’s September select yearling auction in which a Louisiana-bred colt by Eskendereya topped the auction at $140,000. He is out of Tortuga Flats, a six-time stakes winner who earned $594,064. During the September sale, 132 yearlings sold for an average of $12,987.

Equine Sales Co. also announced plans to add a 2-year-olds in training sale to its lineup of auctions next year. The sale will be April 28. The breeze show is scheduled for April 26 and will be conducted at the Copper Crowne Training Center that abuts the auction house's property.
