Catalano ends association with Ramseys

Email

Trainer Wayne Catalano has all but ended his four-year association with leading North American owners Ken and Sarah Ramsey, Catalano confirmed Friday.

A few Ramsey horses still are in limbo, housed in Catalano’s stalls at Keeneland, but Catalano said he had given up about 15 other Ramsey-owned horses. Some, like the good Illinois-bred Coalport, who is with Mike Maker’s string in Florida, already have begun showing up with other trainers.

“We had different philosophies,” Catalano said of the split. “Believe me, this was a hard thing to do. We parted on good terms.”

Catalano-trained, Ramsey-owned horses won 74 races, including 11 stakes and five graded stakes. Their best horse was Stephanie’s Kitten, who won the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf in 2011, and the Grade 1 Just A Game Stakes this past summer. Catalano developed Stephanie’s Kitten from early in her 2-year-old season, but the filly, upon returning to the track this fall following recuperation from an injury, was sent to trainer Chad Brown.

The RAMSEY'S are blessed with MONEY and a string of SUPER thoroughbreds. Kicking a trainer in the face is normal when common-in-sense and fame makes you stupid. Wayne Catalano is a FINE gentlemen and one of the BEST trainers in the sport. Wayne, your other CLIENTS respect your ability to TRAIN and develop TOP-TIER thoroughbreds. In life a GOOD things happen to GOOD people .. Jersey Skip

Didnt Barry Irwin of team valor infer some very negative things about catalano after animal kingdom won the derby? Didn't catalano train AK before motion?

There is more to this split than what is being said, only Ramsey and Cantalano know the truth. They had a good run and like with everything else in life there comes a time when you have to move on

Very true,Forego137. As a former owner, you will always disagree on some issues. Unfortunately, many owners make an attempt to be the trainer as well as owner. Most trainers, like to be left alone, and do not care for too much personal contact from owners, especially if there is a partnership, involving many individuals. I witnessed it first hand, when one of our trainers, from the get go, made it very clear he would talk to only one partner. PERIOD. There is also some. arrogance. It is a tough business, and very expensive.

Scott Boras, professional sports agent and founder of Boras Corp. My labor-law professor once told me: Business and money don't breed warm feelings. Ninety-five percent of what people say about you is going to be negative. And remember, that means that you are doing a good job.

All these post claiming Ramsey doesn't pay his training bills. Why don't the trainers take Ramsey to the stewards? Here in Ca. if you don't pay your training or vet bill your license is revoked....Trainers and vets take them to the stewards all the time..

East coast stewards ask you to take them to court..they wont act as "bill collectors"...

Ramsey is a crook! Many will recall how he wanted to win the title for most wins in a year and he tried to BRIBE A 50-1 ML at Turfway to scratch out so he could enter. The trainer went to stewards and Ramsey got a slap on the wrist. It is that type of behavior that no one forgets. He didn't make his money the old fashion way - he won a lottery for cell phone frequencies when the govt auctioned them quite a few years ago. HE IS A DEGENERATE GAMBLER - when he looked at the ESPN camera and recommeneded that everyone go bet his house (AP Million I think) "with both hands like I am going to do" he MEANT THAT. He is primarily a supefecta player and goes $3-$5000 a race. I KNOW THIS - dont ask for proof. He said as much on national TV. Made me very happy to have Better Talk Now (27-1) at Lone Star BC when Kitten's Joy claimed foul against the winner. Kitten's Joy had enough of a success on the lawn to have been a success in the shed - so ask yourself why Ramsey had to do it alone? Enough succuessful turf sires in the US? Maybe it was him. He act was old 10 years ago - now it is laughable. "Bet with both hands" Sure, Ken.

It is worth noting that his trainers are told to enter to WIN each and every time because Ken will be in the wndows and he hates to lose. So when you see that Red R and you don't have it, don't be surprised if it beats you. Say what you will about the man (as I did) but you can't ignore him much in the gate. His horses are run into the ground, but they win before they are buried. No reason for Wayne to leave unless it was over $. DIfference of opinion? Like winning year in and year out is something Wayne didn't want? It was all about the $ that he is owed.

talk about your green eye jealousy! The game needs more Ramseys. He's a gambler you bet . He went all in with Kittens Joy and it paid off big time. And of course , they're all crooks or you would be a big winner not a whining cry baby.

Mike, now you have to hide behind an alias? I guess it makes sense though, if I were you I probably would too. Regardless, your lies and distortions are exposed to anyone who even does rudimentary research into the facts.

You sound like a hater. If you are not willing to give proof on another person gambling habits, you should Shut the f@@k up. A person gambling habits is personal, So tired of you fake inside information guys who never give any proof of what they accuse people of doing.

I,don't like Ramsey, but Better Talk Now should have come down. Said it for , still believe it.

Ken Ramsey is a benefit to racing. He is a sportsman who puts his money where his mouth is. He developed a homebred into the leading sire in North America, mostly using his own mares and his own designed matings. Name another American-based owner that is having as big an impact on racing and breeding?
