Casual Attitude vs. Sharky's Review

ALTOONA, Iowa - Casual Attitude ships in from Chicago to take on local star Sharky's Review and four other fillies and mares in Saturday's $40,000 Central Iowa Stakes at Prairie Meadows.

Trained by Steve Hobby, Casual Attitude most recently finished second in the $50,000 Mariah's Storm at Arlington Park on Aug. 13. Casual Attitude shortens from the 1 1/8 miles of the Mariah's Storm to the 1 1/16 miles of the Central Iowa and figures to stalk the early pace under jockey Tim Doocy.

Doocy was aboard Casual Attitude, a 4-year-old daughter of Formal Gold, two starts back, and the pair rallied for an easy 4 3/4-length victory in the Queens Handicap at a mile at Horseman's Park in Omaha, Neb., on July 17.

Overall, Casual Attitude sports a record of 5-2-3 from 14 starts, good for $139,870 in earnings.

Sharky's Review, the all-time leading Iowa-bred female with $677,585 in earnings, looks to rebound from a poor effort in the $75,000 Donna Reed for statebreds here two weeks ago. In the mile and 70-yard Reed, Sharky's Review trailed behind a slow pace set by Switch Lanes and was unable to rally, finishing last of six, beaten 4 1/2 lengths as the 4-5 favorite.

A more honest early pace Saturday would help the chances of the late-running Sharky's Review, who has won 15 of 34 career starts for trainer Mark Bader. James Lopez picks up the mount aboard Sharky's Review.

Switch Lanes was the upset winner of the Donna Reed here Aug. 28. Jockey Glenn Corbett nursed Switch Lanes through a half-mile in a slow 49.71 seconds, and the 5-year-old daughter of Deerhound had enough left in the tank to score by three-quarters of a length.

The meet's leading trainer, Dick Clark, claimed Switch Lanes on behalf of his major owner, Maggi Moss, two starts back for $25,000. A runner-up effort behind Casual Attitude in the Queens Handicap preceded Switch Lanes's victory in the Donna Reed. Switch Lanes has earned more than twice what she was claimed for in those two races. Corbett has a return call aboard Switch Lanes on Saturday.
