Javier Castellano was handed a suspension for his ride in the 2013 Nashua Stakes.

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Jockey Javier Castellano, the leading rider in the nation in terms of purse money won, on Saturday will begin serving a seven-day suspension for careless riding stemming from an incident last year.

Castellano dropped his appeal of a suspension handed him by the New York stewards for his ride aboard Intense Holiday in last year’s Grade 2 Nashua Stakes. Castellano maneuvered Intense Holiday over to the inside and forced the rider on Tiznowforamerica to check and nearly go into the rail.

Intense Holiday finished fourth, and Tiznowforamerica was last. The stewards did not make a change to the order of finish in the race.

Javier castellano is the best jockey in racing ..what about last week in the breeders cup race martin Garcia how come he didn't get suspended for pushing into mike smith making him go in javier horse..what about that careless riding.I don't care what anyone says javier is the best and will always be ..so stop trying to put him down..and new York racing needs to start paying attention to what is going on..because there is a lot of bad riders...

Is anyone at NYRA embarrassed over this?

no surprise. the rules in new york are a farce. keep riding until all the big races have been completed. when do you think junior alvarado will serve his 15 days for nearly getting maragh killed?

He's probably looking forward to a week off. Enjoy!

Why not have them start serving the suspension one week before they retire...one year later what a joke..then again if the stewards had a bet on a certain horse with a German name.at santa anita they will pretend nothing happened and his jockey will get nothing.

if I had a dollar for every Horse I bet on that got taken out at the gate I'd be rich. For once my Horse won.
