Conquest Tsunami, trained by Mark Casse, is headed to Saturday's Grade 3 Delta Downs Jackpot.

Trainer Mark Casse has long been a Jackpot Day participant at Delta Downs, and he could have three runners among the eight stakes Saturday on this year’s card: Conquest Tsunami in the Grade 3, $1 million Delta Downs Jackpot, Miss Mandate in the Grade 3, $400,000 Delta Downs Princess, and Spring in the Air in the $200,000 Treasure Chest.

The races are among the chief offerings on the Jackpot Day program, worth $2.3 million in purses. Casse said on Monday that Conquest Tsunami and Spring in the Air were scheduled to van to Delta from Churchill Downs on Wednesday. Miss Mandate, based in Southern California, is scheduled to fly in for the race on Thursday. She is one of 17 pre-entries for the Princess.

“The plan is to run Conquest Tsunami in the Jackpot, and we’re also going to see whether Miss Mandate is going to get into the Delta Princess,” Casse said.

Entries for both races were to be taken on Tuesday. Casse said Spring in the Air, a Grade 1 winner, would be supplemented to the Treasure Chest.

Casse has sent horses to Delta Downs for Jackpot Day stakes on a regular basis since 2007, when he won the Jackpot with Turf War in a dead heat with Z Humor. Casse won the Princess last year with Tepin. He said the track’s surface seems to suit some of his horses.

“We find that the synthetic horses run really well over at Delta, and also the Churchill Downs horses,” he said. “It’s always on the radar.”

Casse said Shaun Bridgmohan would have the mount on all three of his horses.

Take Charge Brandi hits road

Take Charge Brandi, winner of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, was due to arrive at Delta on Monday, said Chris Warren, the track’s director of racing. She was one of five Kentucky-based horses that were flying to Houston on Monday then vanning to Delta for stakes on Saturday.

Warren said Take Charge Brandi, who is being pointed for the Princess, was accompanied by Princess hopefuls Skipalute and Temper Mint Patty. Mr. Z and Far Right were also on the flight, with both horses being pointed for the Jackpot.

Skipalute enters the Princess off a second-place finish in the Grade 2 Matron at Belmont Park. Trainer Eddie Kenneally said Corey Lanerie has the mount on her in the Princess.

Grand Contender returns

Grand Contender set a track record last year when winning the Delta Mile, and he will be back to defend his title in Saturday’s race, said trainer Tom Amoss. Grand Contender worked a bullet five furlongs in 1:00.60 at Fair Grounds on Friday. Amoss said Gerard Melancon has the mount.

Amoss on Saturday also plans to start Kiss to Remember in the Treasure Chest.

Amoss won last year’s Jackpot with Rise Up.

◗ Delta announced Monday that the live race call of the Jackpot will be broadcast on Sirius XM channel 92 as part of a two-hour radio program with Chris McCarron, Bill Finley, and Dave Johnson. Post for the race is 4:15 p.m. Central. The program starts at 3 p.m. and will also feature the live call of the Princess.

Run on Tsunami! This horse is still going to be a monster. He was short at Keeneland, and needed a run and more works over the dirt. When his Poly form catches up..look out.
