In the midst of another strong season, trainer Mark Casse hit a milestone Saturday when Reimburse took the second race at Gulfstream Park, becoming the 2,000th winner of Casse’s training career.

Casse, 55, sent out his first starter in 1979 at age 18. Between 1992 and 1997, when he was the general manager of Mockingbird Farm, Casse had only 40 runners, but following that period, his numbers have steadily trended upward. He won 100 races in a year for the first time in 2011 and had a career-year in 2015, when his stable won 159 races with purse earnings of nearly $13.7 million. The Casse-trained Tepin was named champion female turf horse after winning the Breeders’ Cup Mile.

Casse has deep roots in Florida and left a string to race at the Gulfstream spring meeting this year after sending the bulk of his stable north to Kentucky and Canada.
