Casey pair have opposite styles

Trainer James W. Casey sends a strong speed-closer entry in the $45,000 Frank Gall Memorial at Charles Town on Saturday. Rhythmic Moves, who is rarely headed early, teams up with Three's a Crowd, whose last victory came from 12 lengths back, in the seven-furlong race for West Virginia-bred 3-year-olds and up.

Rhythmic Moves should be ready to run his best after finishing second earlier this month in a seven-furlong allowance at Charles Town. That was his first race since last November; he ran two months ago but stumbled at the start and lost the rider.

Rhythmic Moves can be tough to catch when he gets an open lead, which is what happened in his 4 1/4-length score last year in the seven-furlong West Virginia Lotteries Breeders Classic. Rhythmic Moves is in post 3, and if he clears Smart Pace just to his inside he could be long gone.

But even if Rhythmic Moves is hooked, the Casey-Taylor Mountain Farm entry has a good shot with Three's a Crowd. He couldn't catch the speedy P. Kerney in a Charles Town allowance sprint two weeks ago, finishing fourth, but that was his first race since May, when he rallied to win the second of two straight allowance sprints.

Others with a shot include Smart Pace, who has won 4 of his last 5 and comes off a three-length optional-claiming score, and Speed Whiz, the winner of last year's West Virginia Breeders Classic, who is coming off a much-needed prep.
