Carter Sales Co. summer yearling sale to be held Sunday

Carter Sales Co. will put on its annual summer yearling auction Sunday in Oklahoma City, and officials anticipate the sale could be the strongest in the seven-year history of the auction inaugurated in 2009. It will start at 2 p.m. Central at the sales arena of the Oklahoma City Fairgrounds.

Carter Sales Co. has cataloged 79 yearlings for the auction. There are also three horses of racing age that will be offered at the end of the sale. A diverse group of stallions is represented by yearlings Sunday, among them Burbank, Colonel John, Don’t Get Mad, Dublin, Dunkirk, Euroears, Line of David, Old Fashioned, Shackleford, Tapizar, Temple City, and Toccet.

“This is the best catalog we’ve ever had,” Terri Carter, sales manager for Carter Sales. Co., said on Friday. “It has more black type than we’ve ever had. It’s probably our best sale ever.”

Last year, a Tiz Wonderful colt topped the yearling portion of the auction at $67,000, a record for Carter Sales Co. The average was $8,863, up 20 percent from the corresponding sale in 2013.

Carter said the appeal of the racing-age horses in Sunday’s sale is the fact that Remington Park in Oklahoma City was to open its meet Friday.
