Carson Hollow top N.Y. bred of '02


Carson Hollow and her connections were the big winners Tuesday night at the annual New York Thoroughbred Breeders' awards dinner in Albany, N.Y.

Carson Hollow, who won last Saturday's Grade 2 Distaff Breeders' Cup Handicap at Aqueduct, was named New York-bred horse of the year and champion 3-year-old filly and sprinter for her 2002 campaign.

Carson's Hollow's trainer, Richard Dutrow Jr., her breeder, Patricia Purdy, and the filly's regular rider, John Velazquez, also were honored with NYTB awards.

The other divisional winners were: Gander (older male); Dat You Miz Blue (older female); Private Emblem (3-year-old male); Finality (turf male); Shopping for Love and Rhum (co-champion turf females); Funny Cide (2-year-old male); Beautiful America (2-year-old filly); Hendler (steeplechase); and Critical Crew (broodmare).
