Carribean Sunset comes through in Penny Memorial

The third time proved to be the charm for trainer Christophe Clement.

Third in the past two runnings of the Dr. James Penny Memorial Handicap with horses that went off at 2-1 or less, Clement finally got a win in Monday's $200,000 turf race for fillies and mares at Philadelphia Park when heavily favored Carribean Sunset defeated I Lost My Choo.

An Irish filly who was second and fourth while facing graded stakes company in her first two starts in the United States, the 4-year-old Carribean Sunset ($3.60) and jockey Ramon Dominguez sat patiently in second as 45-1 longshot Fire Water opened up by nearly a dozen lengths in the 1 1/16-mile race. As Fire Water faded badly in the stretch, Carribean Sunset surged down the middle of the track and easily held off 2-1 choice I Lost My Choo by three-quarters of a length while completing the distance in 1:44.59.

Scolara won a photo for third over Chestoria.
