Carem Crescent holds off the favorite

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Carem Crescent barely held off the 4-5 favorite, Milwaukee Appeal, to capture the $151,200 Jammed Lovely Stakes at Woodbine on Sunday.

It was the fourth winner on the card for jockey Eurico Da Silva, who had Carem Crescent attending moderate fractions in the seven-furlong race for Ontario-bred 3-year-old fillies.

Carem Crescent put away pacemaker Deeveetee at the sixteenth pole and went by to score by a neck, in a time 1:22.18. Not Just a Rumor rallied to finish a close third in the eight-horse field.

Carem Crescent ($6.60) earned $90,000 for Melnyk Racing Stable. The victory was the 13th in a stakes at the meet for trainer Malcolm Pierce.

* The blue-blooded Cascading landed her first stakes as the 2-1 favorite under Patrick Husbands in Sunday's $158,975 Glorious Song.

Cascading stalked the leaders on the outside before taking control exiting the turn, and she went on to win the seven-furlong sprint by 1 1/4 lengths over Roan Inish. Jenny's So Great finished third in the 10-horse field of 2-year-old fillies.

"Today, she was all professional," Husbands said. "She broke sharp, and I just wanted to get her as relaxed as possible. I could have done anything with her."

Cascading ran the distance in 1:23.05 and collected $90,000 for Hill 'n' Dale Equine Holdings and Ed McGhee.
