Canyon de Oro victorious at Woodlands


Canyon de Oro rallied for a two-length win over Ww Robin de Hood in the $30,000 Woodlands Handicap at The Woodlands in Kansas City, Kan., on Saturday. It was another three and a half lengths back in third to Morning Merry, while favorite Patton's Victory finished fifth after setting the pace into the stretch. The race was the closing day feature at The Woodlands.

Canyon de Oro ($11.40) covered the mile and a sixteenth in 1:43.20. Gary Kurek rode the winner for trainer Leroy Hellman.

Earlier on the card, Kurek won the $30,000 Woodlands Derby with Ww Conquistador($13.40). Ww Conquistador, who won the mile and a sixteenth race by four lengths, is trained by Jimmy Zook.

In the two Quarter Horse stakes on the program, Hot Hoofs N Traffic($6.20) won the $98,458 Kansas Jackpot Futurity and Hes Designed to Fly($35.40) captured the $41,538 Kansas Jackpot Derby.
