Canterbury track report

SHAKOPEE, Minn. - Seven well-matched 3-year-old colts are entered in the $35,000 St. Paul Stakes at Canterbury Park. Bellicosity ships in from Sportsman's Park to try the six-furlong race and rates a slight edge. Owned by Sam Villardito and trained by Jimmy Divito, Bellicosity has come to hand this season with two daylight victories in Chicago after going winless in six starts at 2. Bellicosity exits an optional claiming race for 3-year-olds; his typical opening-quarter split would make him the pacesetter in the St. Paul. Dean Kutz has been named to ride.

Vito Corleone was claimed in April at Bay Meadows and ran well to finish second in the Golden Circle Stakes on April 27 at Prairie Meadows. Trainer Ray Tracy Jr. has named Seth Martinez to ride.

Strawberry Kid looms as the upsetter in this spot. A winner of four races from five starts this season, Strawberry Kid, a Nebraska-bred son of Verzy, demonstrated the ability to rate and then close into a fast pace when he won the Fonner Park Special for statebreds last month. In his most recent start, Strawberry Kid beat older foes in a six-furlong allowance. Regular rider Perry Compton makes the trip to Canterbury for trainer Mike Kirby.
