Canterbury: Silver Zipper defends title

Silver Zipper made short work of his rivals in the $40,000 HBPA Sprint Stakes at Canterbury Park.

Sent off as the 4-5 favorite, Silver Zipper stalked pacesetting Crocrock, who secured the lead and got an easy first quarter in 22.45, then turned back a bid from Tonight Rainbow while completing the half-mile in 45.75.

Rider Seth Martinez guided Silver Zipper outside the leaders on the turn and swept past Crocrock in the lane, driving to a four-length victory while completing the six furlongs in 1:10.43. Crocrock held second, three-quarters of a length clear of late-running Aces of Gold.

Hugh Robertson trains Silver Zipper, who returned $3.80 after winning his second consecutive running of the HBPA Sprint Stakes.
