Canterbury Park track report

SHAKOPEE, Minn. - A well-matched seven fillies and mares will run in the $40,000 Hoist Her Flag Stakes at Canterbury Park.

Prime Step might be favored in the six-furlong sprint after stringing together a five-win campaign at Canterbury Park last year. But each of Prime Step's victories was earned in races in which she was an odds-on favorite. In two starts against stakes company, Prime Step was unplaced, including her most recent outing, when she finished eighth in the Cactus Flower at Turf Paradise. David Van Winkle trains Prime Step, and Derek Bell will ride her.

Burning Memories has won stakes in three different states in her four-year racing career and finished second to Don't Countess Out in last year's the Hoist Her Flag. A winner of the Runza Stakes at Fonner Park in April, Burning Memories ran second in the Al Swihart Memorial earlier this month. Randy Schacht will ride.

Sarah Jade, a winner of the Canterbury Oaks in 2002, defeated Burning Memories in an allowance race at Canterbury last year. After beginning this year at Oaklawn Park, Sarah Jade ran third in an overnight handicap at Hawthorne outside Chicago in her most recent start. She has since had a bullet work over the Canterbury strip in preparation for the Hoist the Flag. Seth Martinez will ride.

Afleet Angel won her maiden impressively at Canterbury in 2003 and is unbeaten in two starts over the track. Paul Nolan rides Afleet Angel, who wintered at Tampa Bay Downs with trainer Kitty Cheeks. Friendofthefamily has steadily improved for trainer Doug Oliver and comes into the Hoist Her Flag off a victory over optional claiming foes at Turf Paradise in her last start. Scott Stevens will ride.
