Canterbury: Ode to Joy

SHAKOPEE, Minn. - Impressive maiden winner Joy Shannon faces five other Minnesota-bred 2-year-olds in the $35,000-added Minnesota Juvenile Sprint at Canterbury Park.

The 5 1/2-furlong sprint serves as a prep for the Minnesota Northern Lights Futurity and Minnesota Northern Lights Debutante, which will be contested as part of Minnesota Festival of Champions Day Aug. 25.

Joy Shannon, a filly trained by Wilson Brown, defeated open company in her debut in the first week of June. Joy Shannon is from the first crop of the Storm Cat stallion Quick Cut, and she has worked impressively since her debut. Huber Villa-Gomez retains the mount.

Pandorasconnection, the second of three fillies in the Sprint, may test Joy Shannon. Pandorasconnection finished second to runaway winner Madam Speaker in her debut, and set all the pace in her maiden win three weeks ago. Derek Bell will ride Pandorasconnection for the first time in the Sprint.

Carr Delicious finished sixth in the Canterbury Juvenile after winning his maiden in his first start. Seth Martinez picks up the mount.

Sumthing for Alex just missed in his first start, finishing second by a nose to Carr Delicious. He returned three weeks ago and won by a neck in a maiden race that has produced a next-out winner. Juan Rivera rides Sumthing for Alex.
