Canterbury cancels Thursday program because of storms

SHAKOPEE, Minn.  – Officials at Canterbury Park announced that the Thursday night racing card has been canceled due to inclement weather.

“Due to the immense amount of rain we received today and to impending storms with lightning that are expected to be coming through the area for the next several hours, racing has been canceled for tonight,” Canterbury Park president Randy Sampson said.

“In addition to lightning concerns, the storm could drop another inch or two of rain, which will complicate flooding on our property and surrounding roads. We felt it was better to make the call now to minimize as much as possible the inconvenience to our guests, horsemen and employees.”

It is not known yet whether these races will be made up later in the meet.

The balance of last Saturday’s card was also canceled after six Quarter Horse trials due to bad weather.
