Canterbury: 11 in Honor the Hero

SHAKOPEE, Minn. - Eleven runners were entered in the $35,000 Honor the Hero Stakes, a turf stakes at five furlongs.

A number of pace-pressing types are entered in the Honor the Hero, and the runner who may prove to be the controlling speed is Flying Supercon, a winner of two stakes at Turf Paradise this winter.

In his last start, Flying Supercon won the Zany Tactics last month. That race came following strong efforts in the Answer Do Stakes and Phoenix Gold Cup. The Honor the Hero will be Flying Supercon's first attempt on the grass. He is by Flying Continental. Scott Stevens is named to ride. Dan Morgan trains.

Should the pace prove too taxing, a couple of stalkers figure to challenge Flying Supercon. Red Lightning is a turf sprint specialist who won the Kentucky Cup Turf Dash last September at Kentucky Downs. In his most recent start, Red Lightning finished ninth, beaten less than five lengths in the Aegon Turf Sprint at Churchill Downs. Seth Martinez will ride for trainer Joey Ruhsam.

Jeb's Honor, a five-furlong specialist, captured the Brother Brown Stakes at Remington Park last October. Jeb's Honor is trained by Rick Engel and will be ridden by regular rider R.D. Williams.

Toomuch Chavez is an upset possibility for trainer Wayne Catalano. Toomuch Chavez won a five-furlong claiming race at Hawthorne in his last start.
