Can’t Be Wrong won the $50,000 Texas Horse Racing Hall of Fame Stakes for the second year in a row Saturday night at Retama Park, pulling clear by 2 1/2 lengths over Moojab Jr. The win was one of four on the card for the trainer-jockey team of Danny Pish and Ted Gondron. The Hall of Fame Stakes shared a card with the $50,000 Fiesta Mile, both turf routes restricted to horses bred in Texas. The races complemented a trackside gala featuring inductions into the Texas Horse Racing Hall of Fame. The new class was comprised of Steve Asmussen, the late O.C. “Preacher” O’Quinn, the late Steve Sexton, Johnny Trotter, and the horses Creole Dancer and Ochoa.  Can’t Be Wrong ($5.80) was content to let the pace go in the Hall of Fame as Uncle Witt took the field through fractions of 24.32 seconds for the opening quarter, 48.62 for the half-mile, and 1:12.68 for six furlongs. Can’t Be Wrong overtook that rival in the stretch and went on to cover the 1 1/16 miles on firm turf in 1:43.62. Can’t Be Wrong improved his record over the Retama turf to 3 for 3 with his win. The first-place check of $30,000 he picked up for breeder and owner Macassar Corp. pushed his record to six wins from 21 starts for earnings of $152,823. Can’t Be Wrong is a son of Broken Vow and is from the female family of 1993 Kentucky Oaks winner Dispute. Special Rockstar ($3.60) delivered as the 4-5 favorite in the Fiesta Mile, getting up for a neck win over Shezadoll. Special Rockstar covered the mile for fillies and mares on firm turf in 1:37.91. Danny Sorenson was aboard for trainer Mindy Willis. Special Rockstar is a daughter of Special Rate and races for her breeder, Star Bright Thoroughbreds.
