Canadian champion Sky Conqueror represented by first winner


Sky Conqueror, Canada’s champion turf male in 2006, was represented by his first winner on Sept. 7 when Regal Conqueror won a maiden special weight at Woodbine.

Making her career debut, the 2-year-old Ontario-bred chestnut filly rolled to a 7 1/2-length score in the six furlong race, finishing in 1:10.31 on Woodbine’s Polytrack and earning a 71 Beyer Speed Figure. She is campaigned by her breeder, William Sorokolit, and is out of multiple Grade 2 winner Classic Stamp, by Regal Classic.

Sky Conqueror, an 11-year-old son of Sky Classic, stands at Hunterview Farm in Orangeville, Ontario. His fee for 2013 was $5,000 in Canadian funds. Regal Conqueror is his first starter from his debut crop of 10 2-year-olds.

Sorokolit also bred and raced Sky Conqueror, who is out of the winning Conquistador Cielo mare Heavenly Ballerina. An accomplished turf performer, Sky Conqueror earned over $1.7 million in three seasons of racing, annexing four graded stakes. In 2006, he captured two Grade 2 stakes at Woodbine and earned nearly $800,000 in a season that ended with a Sovereign Award. In 2007, Sky Conqueror won the Grade 1 Woodford Reserve Turf Classic at Churchill Downs and took the Northern Dancer Breeders’ Cup Turf Stakes at Woodbine for the second consecutive year.
